Nature-Filled Afternoons for Kids
After school feeling dull or over complicated? Let’s take a step back to the basics. After the kids are done with school, they will need a deep breath. With River Song’s Abloom program, we provide space for kids to get what they need after school. We explore local parks, playgrounds, and natural areas around Fort Collins. Whether they need to take it slow crafting or artfully expend their energy playing, there’s a little bit of adventure in every day with Abloom.
“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.” -Laura Ingalls Wilder
Now accepting enrollments for Mountain Sage & Polaris Students, as well as Homeschoolers and Drop Offs. We may add Traut M-Th for the coming school year – let us know if you are interested.
After School Abloom needs a minimum of 3 students to transport from each location. We will pick up for early release Wednesdays at Polaris and Fridays at Mountain Sage.
Homeschoolers and drop-off children would be responsible to meet the Abloom teachers and class at either one of the schools or the location of the day.

The Benefits of a Waldorf After‑School Program
A Waldorf after‑school program offers something different from conventional care: a thoughtful extension of the school day that supports the whole child; head, heart, and hands. Abloom continues this rhythm in a way that feels natural, steady, and developmentally supportive.
Unhurried Time to Decompress
After a full day of academic focus, children need space to settle, breathe, and transition. Abloom provides an unhurried environment where kids can unwind at their own pace, without overstimulation or rigid scheduling. This gentle transition helps them regulate, reset, and feel grounded before heading home.
Meaningful Outdoor Play
Waldorf education recognizes outdoor play as essential to healthy development. Abloom builds on this by spending afternoons in local parks, playgrounds, and natural areas around Fort Collins. Time outside supports balance, coordination, resilience, and confidence by giving children the freedom to move their bodies in ways the school day doesn’t always allow.
Creative Expression and Hands‑On Activities
Children thrive when they can make, build, imagine, and explore. Abloom offers simple, open ended creative activities that encourage imagination without screens or overstimulation. Crafting, building, skill learning, exploring and nature based play help children integrate their day through creativity and calm focus.
Social Growth Through Mixed‑Age Play
Waldorf programs emphasize social learning through cooperation, empathy, and shared experiences. In Abloom, children play together across ages, learning to collaborate, communicate, and care for one another. This mixed age dynamic strengthens social confidence and fosters a sense of belonging.
A Rhythm That Supports Well‑Being
Waldorf education is built on rhythm – predictable, nurturing patterns that help children feel secure. Abloom mirrors this approach with a steady flow to each afternoon: outdoor exploration, creative play, movement, and time to simply be. This consistency helps children feel safe, supported, and ready to transition home with ease.
A Screen‑Free, Nature‑Centered Environment
In a world full of digital distractions, Abloom offers a refreshing alternative. Children spend their afternoons engaged with the real world of nature, friends, movement, creativity — experiences that nourish their senses and support healthy development.
